What size turkey this year?

So, you have the responsibility of ordering the turkey? We know it can be a nerve-wracking process, you want enough meat for everyone, not everyone likes brown meat, you want sandwiches but don’t want it hanging around until New Year. Let us help you find the perfect turkey ….

It might also help to dispel a few myths to help make your decision too …
Myth: Turkeys are huge and take hours to cook – Our turkeys start at just 4kg and will take just 2 hours to cook on Christmas Day due to the natural fat layer and quick cooking time. Click here for cooking tips from Brenda.
Myth: A big turkey will be dry – We slowly grow our birds to full maturity which gives them a natural fat layer. No matter what size you order this fat layer will keep them juicy and moist all the way to your table.
Myth: Leftover turkey will be tasteless – The traditional dry plucking and game hanging processes ensures an incredible flavour that keeps customers coming back year after year. Don’t be afraid of leftovers for wonderful sandwiches, risottos, and pies, as well as stock and soups for the freezer.
Myth: My family don’t eat brown meat so it is wasted – Although many of us find the brown meat is the tastiest bit, it isn’t for everyone. For those we recommend the turkey crown.
So, what size should I order? A Copas Turkey has more meat on it than a regular supermarket bird and your appetite on the day and for leftovers will change influence it. However as a rough guide we recommend the following with a little extra for leftovers:
- 4kg serves 8 to 10
- 5kg serves 10 to 12
- 6kg serves 12 to 14
- 7kg serves 14 to 16
- 8kg serves 16 to 18
- 9kg serves 18 to 20
Not sure how many are coming for Christmas? Don’t worry, your family is just the same as ours. Turkey sizes can be changed up until 16th December, subject to availability. Just order your best guess now and give our friendly team a call if you need to make a change.
