When ordering one of our WHOLE TURKEYS, you are likely to order in 1/2 or full kg categories from approximately 4kg upwards. All of our turkeys, whether 4kg or 10kg are fully mature adult birds with dense meat & good fat cover, so the eating quality will be comparable.
Please note that weights are subject to seasonal variation & you may experience a variation between ordered & received weight of up to 10% in either direction (& possibly more for crowns).

Free Range Bronze

We started raising bronze feathered turkeys on our farm in 1992. Our commitment to HIGH WELFARE standards means that, unlike some 'free range' turkeys that may be outside for only a matter of weeks, our free range bronze birds are free to stroll around glorious grassy meadows, taking in the fresh air & countryside every day, from about 6 weeks old.

Since turkeys scare easily, natural cover is also provided in the form of maize, sunflowers &, of course, the famous cherry trees in our orchard in Cookham. We also use traditional game cover, which includes tall growing grasses like miscanthus, phacelia & pampas which attracts a fantastic (& colourful) diversity of butterfly & insect ‘visitors’ to our farm.

Made up from over 10 different traditional bronze breeds, our free range flocks represent true diversity & display all the natural characteristics of birds living in the wild… they are seen forming hierarchy’s, taking dust baths & roosting on low tree branches. All are raised on an oat rich cereal diet with no growth promoting nasties, with additional nutrients come from grazing on the surrounding vegetation.

It is worth noting that the SUPERIOR eating quality of all Copas Turkeys is mainly down to the traditional production methods we use, with the utmost respect, at the end of their long, healthy & happy lives.

 

Free Range Organic

In response to strong consumer demand, we started producing Organic turkeys in 2006, with certification via Organic Farmers & Growers.

We were delighted when they were Commended at the Soil Association’s Organic Food Awards in 2010, placing them amongst the country’s most highly rated organic foods.

Copas Free Range Organic turkeys are produced using the same HIGH WELFARE & traditional methods that give all Copas Turkeys their superior eating quality (adult birds are plucked by hand & hung for two weeks like a game bird), the only difference being that their diet & grass meadow fields are organically-certified.

Our flocks are made up of approximately 5 different traditional bronze breeds (for diversity & weight variation) & have 24 hour access to glorious grassy meadows, taking in the fresh air & countryside every day. Natural cover is provided in the form of maize & sunflowers & we also use traditional game cover, which includes tall growing grasses like miscanthus, phacelia & pampas which attracts a fantastic (& colourful) diversity of butterfly & insect ‘visitors’ to our farm.

An oat-rich cereal diet (GM free with no growth promoting nasties) is supplemented by grazing on natural vegetation such as clover & grass. Similar to our other free range flocks, our organic birds display all the natural characteristics of turkeys living in the wild… they are seen forming hierarchy’s & taking dust baths!

 

Traditional White

Our classic white feathered turkeys were the first to be introduced to our farm by Tom Copas in the late 1960's. We have grown them every Christmas since & they are still just as popular today.

Maintaining HIGH WELFARE standards, our Traditional White turkeys are raised in spacious barns with natural light, ventilation & straw bales for play. In fact, we exceed all farm assurances schemes & welfare standards currently operating in the UK, with regards space, diet & welfare conditions.

They are served only the finest quality nutritionally-balanced cereal diet, which is rich in oats & free from any growth promoting nasties.

We believe that variety is the spice of life, which is why our flocks are made up from over 9 different white-feathered traditional breeds. This not only provides a favourable rich diversity throughout the flocks, but enables us to naturally achieve all the weight categories required at Christmas-time, without compromising on age.
